hi

I am looking for some suggestions for my ds he just about to turn 7. He is reading Ginn level8 at school and has read some Roald Dahl, Jack Stalwart, magical children series, Flat Stanley,Beastquest. Happily reads all Dr Who books, fact books, guiness book of records etc.

I am really looking for a fiction series that will really grab and make him want to read on and then try other things. Any recommendations?

thanks

The secret seven got my dd reading. She LOVED them and read the whole series twice.

Ds is just 7 and devoured two Diary of a Wimpy kid books over the easter hols - and Harry Potter (no1) and Tintin in Tibet. Also just finished a Tumtum and Nutmeg book by Emily Bearn, and reading Horrible Histories books to himself.

Mr Gum series (make ds who is 8 laugh like a drain) - might be a bit easy on the reading but they are fab

Rangers Apprentice series - much harder ito language & vocab - exciting fantasy-medieval adventure type stuff (much better than beast quest imo)

How about some Asterix or Tintin comic books?

My DD started reading the Goosebumps range at a similar age - they are horror stories - shes not into typically "girly" books so we were struggling to keep her interest, but these solved the problem - there are hundreds & hundreds in in this range & she still loves them now :)

If he hasn't read them and likes funny books then:
Astrosaurs (and Astrosaurs Academy)
Cows in Action
Captain Underpants

Adventure books - can't go wrong with Secret Seven and Famous Five, you'd think they'd be dated but they still seem to hit the spot completely.

My DS same age and same reading taste (Beastquest aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) love Spypups

Olaf the Viking and the pig who would be king has my ds rolling round helpless at the moment (there is a previous one, just called Olaf the Viking)
If he likes Jack Stalwart (DS1 does, lots!), then how about Max Flash; also Superpowers books, Roddy Doyle, Wild Rescue and of course, Michael Morpurgo (DS1 devoured Kaspar, Arthur High King of Britain and Sleeping sword in single gulps), not strictly a series, but plenty to keep you going. Maybe try Roman mysteries.

How to Train your Dragon - all 8 books. Should keep him going for a little while.

(I would also second most of the suggestions on here!)
