Very long shot - can anyone remember...

The author and/or title of a book that I read as a child (so must have been in the 1980s, but could have been a more classic book)

All I can remember is that it was about a family on a ship (liner) that was going to America and there were two families (I think), one wealthier than the other but willing to share!

This must be the longest of long shots! Anyone got any ideas!!?

Thanks Thanks

Hmm, need a bit more info. Do you remember any of the characters names? Were there any pets smuggled aboard? What age group was it aimed at?

Could it be The Painted Garden by Noel Streatfeild? It's about a family travelling to the USA on a liner. They are quite poor and their tickets are paid for by a family friend/governess who travels with them on the voyage.

I really do have very little to go on! The Painted Garden sounds good to me though, will have a look at that one.

There is another book I'm trying to track down too, but I won't bother you with that one as its just as obscure I think!!

Thanks, really appreciated.

Just remembered that The Painted Garden was published as Movie Shoes in the US.

Doesn't sound like the Painted Garden to me... but it's worth a read anyway.

Absolutely. One of my NS favourites.

I think Enid Blyton wrote one about a family on a liner with a very generous American family?
