Hi all,

I'm in need of some inspiration, are there any similar books to 'The Hungry Caterpillar' that you can recommend?

What is it you like about The Hungry Caterpillar?

Growlithe · 21/03/2012 17:50

'You Choose' by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt. Great for an imaginative child!

Eric Carle who wrote the Hungry Caterpillar wrote or illustrated plenty of others which are also great. My DCs loved "From Head to Toe" and "Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See"

Thanks everyone, I'll check out these suggestions :)

Margo - thanks I didn't realise Eric Carpet had other books!

Belinda - I like the bright pictures, and the story is quite humourous. I think its good as it teaches the days of the week, plus colours and counting, and how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly...surprisingly deep for a baby :)

Eric Carle also wrote The Very Busy Spider, which is much better than Brown Bear IMHO. It's a lovely book.

The very lazy ladybird is fun.

Monkey and Me is a great book. My DD loves it.

Also check out the Hairy Maclary books by Lynley Dodd

My DD liked Mr Seahorse, another Eric Carle. Lovely colours. Also I think he wrote one about a yellow duck which DD also liked.

The Mixed Up Chameleon
Do You Want To Be My Friend?
The Very Quiet Cricket
The Very Lonely Firefly

-- all lovely

Here's a list.

I recommend the Boo and Baa series by Olaf and Lena Landstrom too.

Bad Tempered Ladybird (also Eric Carle) is great too. And from a teaching point of view - telling the time and lots of different animals. Smile
