Could anyone please give me any suggestions for bookshops with large / good / interesting children's sections?

I have discovered Foyles on Charing Cross Road, but was wondering whether there were any others that people would recommend, and perhaps even any children's book specific shops?

Thanks!

Is it just in London you are looking or further afield?

I have been to Norfolk's Children's book Centre before and found it to be brilliant and I have heard good things about Nickel Books in Kent.

Pascha · 10/01/2012 18:44

Oh yes Nickel Books is very good.

ShowOfHands · 10/01/2012 18:48

Nickel Books is a must. Grin

Nickel books has an excellent reputation and as long as you didn't order a baby I'm sure you wouldn't have a long wait for delivery.

Tales on Moon Lane next to Herne Hill station.

Another vote for Tales on Moon Lane. Books for older children are in the room at the back, btw - I nearly missed them.

I think Foyles must have got better, because the Foyles in the South Bank has an excellent selection for a small shop, with some fairly unusual things, whereas I remember being unimpressed by Foyles in CC a few years ago.

Agree - Tales on Moon Lane is fabulous and they do book signings too. Lovely Lauren Child signed a Charlie and Lola book for my DD there. It's a gorgeous shop.

I think Foyles in the best but Daunt books also a really lovely bookshop with a great children's section

Moon Lane! I haven't been or a couple of years, but it is lovely.

If you can get to north London how about the Children's Bookshop in Muswell Hill - it's packed from floor to ceiling with books and the staff really know their stuff. Every person who goes in there seems to be asking for advice and leave with a bag of books. My kids love our trips up there, the staff know just how to find the right book, and engage with children whatever their level of reading. They do lots of author signings too on Saturdays.

This one Victoria Park Books is great, and can be combined with a trip to Victoria Park in East London (after a trip to Museum of Childhood if rainy or Victoria Park with newly refurbished playground if good weather). The staff give good recommendations. Alternatively, if you are down Brighton-way, Bags of Books in Lewes is fabulous - cosy, friendly, great recommendations again.
