I like board books as he likes to read rough.
Any suggestions for books that will pull my heart strings / excite his interest in entomology / teach him something useful / be remembered by him when his face turns all angular and prickly...

Happy New Year all x

The Gruffalo or anything by Julia Donaldson particularly The Snail and the Whale.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Peekabo
We're going on a Bear Hunt
Guess How Much I love you
Each Peach Pear Plum

reup · 04/01/2012 17:36

Peepo. One of my favourite ever books

fivegomadindorset · 04/01/2012 17:36

Sorry that is it Peepo, not Peekabo

StrawHat · 05/01/2012 19:51

We have Peepo, Bear hunt, Guess and Each peach, all of which I consider to be excellent.
As you have such good taste five I'm definately going to try for the Gruffalo and Caterpillar.

Thanks!

Hairy McCleary is also very funny.

HappyAsEyeAm · 29/01/2012 11:56

Any of the Hairy Maclary series - I particularly like Slinky Malinky (a board book).

yellowflowers · 10/02/2012 23:35

Shark in the park

Orange bear apple pear

What a lovely gift. Usborne do a fantastic range for little ones (and older ones of course).

If you like Noisy books ( i dont but many of my customers do!) try this page. They tend to be about £10, are board books, but have tabs which the children can turn themselves. www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?cat=1&area=EY&subcat=BBN

This one is £14-99 but might appeal to your entomology! I would normally recommend this for 2 1/2 years +
www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?cat=1&area=EY&subcat=EYWM&id=4891

Or try the First Picture 123 and ABC www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?cat=1&series=99

The Gruffalo (for sharing)! You can get that and the Gruffalo's Child on Amazon for a tenner. Or for proper board books that last try the "That's not my...." series. They're touchy feely.

duchesse · 10/02/2012 23:57

The Gruffalo even comes as a board book.

Aside from JD. Owl Babies has been a favourite of DS (3.10) for a couple of years now and I love reading it too.

babycc29x · 14/02/2012 23:12

my wee one love dr seuse books, cat in the hat, green eggs and ham, etc... i really think it cos its rhyming and the repeation!! u might not have thought about these books because they are for 6 above my wee boy has all dr seuse books from toddler + , they really are good keeps a smile on his face n laughs when it rhymes and repeats! the reaction of a child when u read a book to them is amazing!!

the best one is 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish, he has a little finger puppet thing u put on ur hand and basically teaches him to count and the colours...

he has got 5 little piggys book - this little peggy went to the market.... again that has the finger puppets with it!

Yellowflowers · 15/02/2012 23:47

Owl babies makes me cry

Yellowflowers · 15/02/2012 23:48

Not in a good way. I find it genuinely scary

BertieBotts · 15/02/2012 23:52

When The World Is Ready For Bed made me cry for some reason Confused It's just a story about some rabbits doing their bedtime routine! (Does mention praying though, in case that would bother you.)

Oh, and THIS ONE - this one makes me well up at the DESCRIPTION! www.amazon.co.uk/Night-You-Were-Born/dp/0312601557/ref=pd_sim_b_6 - haven't actually seen it in the flesh but the reviews are good.

BertieBotts · 15/02/2012 23:52

And Once There Were Giants.

You will need tissues Grin

mamij · 17/02/2012 14:23

Don't forget Dear Zoo, My Presents, or anything by Rod Campbell. My DD1 loves his books. As well as the ones mentioned above - anything by Julia Donaldson, The Hungry Caterpillar, We're going on a Bear Hunt.... She also loves books from Usbourne as they are colourful with easy to understand words.

nickelDorritt · 17/02/2012 14:26

i bought my nephew the train one when he was 2 and he loved it.

nickelDorritt · 17/02/2012 14:26
