Hi, I was going to order a copy of Gangsta Granny by David Walliams for my 9 year old niece. However, due to personal reasons involving Grans, I've decided this might not be appropriate this year. Probably over reacting but I feel safer choosing a different title. Any suggestions for me please? tia

Would you recommend Heidi as suitable?

What does she like to read? There seems to be a buzz around Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Beast Quest series, and that book about the dragon by Cressida Cowell and of course there's Jacqueline Wilson/Cathy Cassidy.

My goddaughter (9) is raving about a series of books by Lynne Gardner here
I think there are to be 4 in the series - 3 published and one to come.

The trouble with classics like Heidi is that if she's into reading its quite likely she will have read it?

TBH my inclination with a 9 y/o would be to ask her parents. I could tell you several books that my dd would love to get as presents - but if you picked something like How to Train your Dragon, Percy Jackson etc, the chances are that she would have read it already.

My 9 y/o would also be absolutely thrilled to get a book token as she loves being able to pick her own books.
