Can you recommend any audio books as a birthday present for a 5 year old boy?

DD started reception this year and we're already overcome with class birthday parties. We gave lego to the first few boys but was thinking of an audio book for the next party. Or any of the Roald Dahl books perhaps? Thanks for any suggestions you can give (and sorry about lengthy link - am new to this!)

Jill Tomlinson 'the owl who was afraid of the dark" and 'the cat who wanted to get home' have been long time favourites with us.

There is a Paddington one I think called Paddington in the Garden (was 50th anniv book). Buy the book & the CD comes inside.

Absolutely loved my Paddington tape when I was little. Think the Works have got 2 Paddington CDs for £2.99 at the moment.

The audio book version of How to Train your Dragon is also good

Horrid Henry is a huge hit with my 4 yo and his 7yo big sister.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Will have a look at all of these. I also haven't introduced many audio books to my own kids so some potential xmas prezzies here I think :).

If your kids like audio books then our library has loads, we tend to get out a selection before long car journeys or if dd is ill for example.

I second neolara with Horrid Henry.

We've got the Puffin Book of Stories for 5 Year Olds (and the one for 6 yr olds too!) and it's good - I've also bought them for friends' birthdays.

Others I can recommend are any of the Roald Dahl ones - particularly Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which, to my kids' delight, is read by Grandpa in My Pocket. And George's Marvellous Medicine read by Richard E. Grant. And I would second The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, read brilliantly by Maureen Lipman. Also the Mr Gum series are hilarious, read by Andy Stanton himself.

We LOVE audio books in our family - they are the saviour of our school run!

These are great. Will definitely venture into the world of audio for both presents and my own DCs. Can't believe I haven't done this yet with the road trips we've been on. Will definitely look at our library so thanks for that suggestion Takver. They've recently announced they won't be closing and will now be run by volunteers!
