Leon & Bob- I don't get it....

Has anyone read "Leon and Bob "?

I was introduced to this on PGCE a few years ago and everyone gasped at the ending about how great it was.

But to this day I don't "get it"?! What was the ending all about?!

I realise how ridiculous this sounds!

He has a new friend in the neighbour! I think it's a story about how real friendship surpasses imaginary friends and being on your own.

So the imaginary friend wasn't actually real? Leon isn't some fantasy realm?
