We have famous five and the mysteries to choose from. Which age would you say each set pitched at and would one set be easier to read than the other? ds is just turned 7 but a good reader.

Famous five better to start with IMO. I'm about to start with DS!!

I would say that both would be fine, I don't think either is harder and both would be perfectly fine for a 7 y/o. Secret 7 is perhaps aimed slightly younger than either set.

My girls read them in the order of:
Secret seven
Famous Five
Secret Island etc. series and the Barney mysteries
Find-outers
Mystery series.

Ds (being awkward) discovered the Mystery stories this summer (just turned 4) and is completely addicted though. They read out loud quite nicely, but I think his main aim is to persuade me to get a parrot. Wink
