want a book that appeals to a 5 yo and an 8yo to share on holiday

hi - on our holiday I'd like to take 1 book that would appeal to my 5 yo son and 8 yo dd. Normally i take a few books, but this year feel i can share storytime and do a shared reader. Done all the Roald Dahl - any suggestions! I usually buy a book as a treat in the holidays so a new release would be ideal.....

We've just read some old fashioned stories, yet they still appealed to my DS's aged 5 & 8:

The Faraway Tree Collection, Enid Blyton
Mrs Pepperpot Stories, Alf Proysen

Have they read the How to Train your Dragon books? If not I suspect they'd appeal to both.

Not new but Swallows & Amazons might hit the spot. I've read there's a film currently being made so could be ahead of the curve
