My son has just devoured the Angie Sagie series (Flyte, Physik etc)...any suggestions for further reading?

My twelve year old son has really enjoyed the Charlie Bone series and is quite keen on Darren Shan although I reserve judgement on them!

Hi Lolly - Charlie Bone looks right up his street, thanks so much for suggestion (might give Darren Shan a miss as he's rather prone to sleepwalking and night terrors!!) Yvette

The Lion Boy series by Zizou Corder are good.
Cornelia Funke's Inkheart series is also excellent.
He might like the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins also.

Popular authors with my two avid reader boys (11 and 13)

Anthony Horowitz
Eoin Colfer
Christopher Paulini

You could also try Diana Whynne Jones. My son's loved Charlie Bone and a bookseller's recommended going for her next.

Second Diana Wynne Jones, would also recommend the Roman mysteries by Caroline Lawrence - DD1 age 10 is hooked on those.

I second Michelle Paver - and try the Sebastian Darke books by Philip Caveney.

I highly recommend these series:

Charlie Higson - Young James Bond
Chris Ryan - Alpha Team
Anthony Horowitz - Alex Rider, The Power of Five etc...
Robert Muchamore - Cherub, Henderson's Boys
Suzanne Collins - Hunger Games

Anthony Horowitz also has many other books that are not part of series that are very good.

Holes by Louis Sachar - a fabulous book
Anything by David Almond - I love Skellig

deaconblue · 09/05/2011 13:33

Sorry that should read anything by David Almond - the capital makes it look like there's a book called "Anything" :)

There's a new website called Fiction Express where kids can vote on what the author writes next. My son's not a huge reader, but he heard about this at school and is really enjoying it.
