My daughter (11) and I both agree (a rare event deserving of celebration) that all three of David w's childrens' books are fab. And did you know that mr stink the musical is on at the curve theatre in Leicester for one week only ih the summer half term? We both also illicitly love the grown up flywithme spoof on I player.

My DS aged 10 loves David Walliams books too. He is dyslexic and the three David Walliams books are the only books he has ever read all the way through!

I wondered it anyone could recomend any similar books by other authors. I remember once reading a book by Eric Morecombe called the Reluctant Vampire which was good, so maybe comedians make great children's authors.

Mr gum books?

lovecheese · 28/01/2011 19:02

The "Ottoline" books by Chris Riddell, as much off-the-wall as Mr. Gum and enjoyable as David Walliams.

I remember The Reluctant Vampire too! I thought I was the only person who'd ever read it. V good, yes.
Sandy Toksvig's Super Saver Mouse books are good too (more because of the appealing subject matter than their prose quality, which is OK).

Over my dead body will the Madonna or Gerry (Gerie?) Halliwell books enter this house though.

I have just bought the first two books for my friends ds's 10th birthday!

coldtits · 02/02/2011 17:48

They really are good, actually. I was dreading them a bit, all 'slebs' think they can write children's books, but I was enthralled by Mr Stink.
