Hans Christian Andersen tales

I know that there are hundreds of different versions of the complete collection. Question is which version should one go for?

I hope to read them to my book loving dd in a couple of years time so I'd like one that has some illustrations. I don't want ones that have been heavily edited from the original.

Any ideas please?

We have one by Val Biro (has written/illustrated loads of books) which has 6 HCA tales in- ugly duckling, tin soldier, emporer's nightnigale, dan the dunce, wild swans, and magic trunk- DD got it just before turning 3 and adores it.

Thanks for the response Captain. I think I had a look at that one on Amazon but it doesn't list the stories.

can I bump this old thread please? I am looking for a HC Anderson collected for a six year old - for me to read to her so can be a non-simplified version. Illustrations too. Any suggestions? TIA

bumping for us too..

Usborne have just published an Illustrated Version of several of the HC A tales perfect for the 6+ age group. RRP £12-99

NOTE: vested interest I am an Usborne rep - I haven't yet seen the book but have ordered 3 for my stock coz it looks so gorgeous I think it will sell really well for Christmas. And I want a copy for my 6yr DS for Xmas!

I will post a link to the main Usborne site rather than my own if anyone would like. I'll wait to be asked before I do that tho!

yes, I've seen the Usborne one online too and it looks lovely. Link please :)

This is the link to page on the main website. You can even see a couple of sample pages.
