Narnia style books but for younger children (6)

Just started reading The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe to dd (6), and she's loving it, but I'm not sure we'll last the course.

Dd is quite sensitive and is already finding it quite scary. But she's also loving the story telling, and suspense, and I'm wondering if there are any other similar fantasy/adventure books out there, but a bit less scary & more suited to younger children?

what about some of the older books, like famous five? or The Faraway Tree? i remember reading a series of books when i was younger similar to the famous five but i think there were less children in it but can't remember what they were called.

Thanks - Faraway Tree a good suggestion, will look for in library.

Dd really enjoying the Lion, the Witch etc. but I'm worried she'll be traumatised by the bit where Aslan is shaved & killed! Might paraphrase that bit.

Anyone else?

Diana Wynne Jones - the Chrestomanci books and others would be suitable and less scary than Narnia.
The Horse and His Boy isn't scary, unlike the other Narnia books.
