Ds is 4 1/2 and loves historical stuff. He borrows factual books from the library on Vikings, Eygptians and Romans and particularly loves gruesome information. I think he'd love this series. Obviously it would be for me to read to him. Too young?

If he likes gore, go for it. Perhaps have a flick through before you start.

My DD is five and plays on the HH website constantly

I think the books are perhaps 'older' than the website/tv series. Does he watch the tv series - it might appeal?

DD is 8, and has been reading the Horrible science books for a while, but only in the last year maybe started on horrible history.

But of course if you are reading to him, you can always cut/alter as necessary :)

I do tend to read the line ahead at the same time as reading aloud to him anyway in case I need to modify vobac. Have just read him Gobbolino the witch's cat and some of the vocab was so old-fashioned I had to modernise
