trying to remember

Hi, not sure if this is the best place to post but I have been pondering this for a while. I remember reading a book at school, oooh about 35 years ago or so, about a boy called David (I think) who had to travel on his own across Europe (I think), surviving as best he could. Does anyone remember/know of this book????

Thank you, that's the one! I did try googling 'I am David' as that was the title I remembered but didn't come up with anything so thought I must have remembered wrong.

It was a translation iirc.

Very powerful and moving book.
