Charlie and Lola

Could someone tell me which Charlie and Lola books are the original ones so to speak? I was going to buy 'slightly invisible' but read on Amazon it is a spinoff from the series (I knew this book was) as are others ( I didn't know about the others).
I want to buy my DS the books but I don't know which ones now.
TIA

I think that 'but excuse me, that is my book' is an original too...and the one about looking after sizzles ' yes we honestly, promisedly will look after your dog' or something like that.

I think that Slightly Invisible is an original book ie actually written by LC. It has the 'Lauren Child Original' logo on the cover (I can see it in an ad next to this thread.) And there was an interview with LC in the Guardian recently, in which she talked about writing it.

If you look closely at the Amazon reviews you can see that a lot of the reviews refer to other LC books, not to 'Slightly Invisible', which is a bit confusing at first glance.

I understand that Slightly Invisible IS an original. I also think the spin-offs are good too, what do others think?

Campaspe · 15/11/2010 18:57

GranC - I admit, I think the spin offs are pretty true to the "originals" and think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. I think young fans would love them all.

Consider also by Lauren Child "Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton-Trent". A big hit with our DS age 6.

domesticslattern · 19/11/2010 12:20

Slightly invisible is not a spin-off. We had Lauren Child on MN recently talking about it.

While I prefer the originals to the TV inspired books, I have to point out that DD doesn't give a hoot.

jamaisjedors · 20/11/2010 14:45

Well which are the originals then ds?

MrsVincentPrice · 20/11/2010 14:52

The three that choufleur mentioned are the originals. Slightly Invisible is a new Lauren Child original. But the spinoffs are also pretty good - Book People etc usually do good value package deals.
