DS has had an aversion to the written word until now, and the discovery of the Captain. I am really delighted that he is reading, and he has read 5 books since Friday, but I would like to fairly quickly introduce some alternatives.Has anyone got any recommendations? He loves the humour( we live in France. Not much of that sort of humour about)

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series would be a logical next step as it is funny and also easy on the eye, with the writing interspersed with black and white illustrations. More to it than the Captain but not so much that your DS will be put off.

We went from Captain Underpants to How to train your dragon which she loved and are on the second book How to be a pirate.

Very funny and full of drawings.

I second the Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Big Nate: The Boy with the Biggest head in the World was also a great success. Apparently the author's works were what inspired Jeff Kinnear to write the Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
