Stormbreaker - plot to kill every schoolchild in Britain. A later one does deal with human trafficking, and there are some relationship bits. Not awful, but does depend on the child. DS started reading them about 11ish.

DS read the series when he was 7/8/9. Didn't seem too traumatised. Lots of his friends read them around the same sort of age. Why don't you try reading one yourself first and see what you think?

Don't worry, they're not exactly a demanding read!
