That's interesting - this evening had a slightly surreal experience reading one of Gaiman's "M is for Magic" short stories to my 10 year old - the one about the troll under the bridge - struggled to keep a straight face with all the stuff about wanting to touch his girlfriend's breasts, her turning into a zombie etc and didn't know quite what to make of the end when the troll ate his life and turned into him, as some sort of penance for his being unfaithful to his wife. Not quite what I was expecting from the cover etc. We both had a giggle and agreed that it was a "bit grown up", but it's hard to know who he's really writing for, although the quality of the writing is good.

Cymru that sounds really odd - must find it and have a look !

I totally agree pointy my thoughts exactly. I felt like there were gaping holes in the plot and a total lack of character development. It felt like a missed opportunity to me. I think that it won Carnegie on the back of Coralines success TBH.

I agree, doof. How satisfying to agree so completely.

give the Star Maker's series a try. First book, Phoebe finds her Voice. A fantastic read for any children who dream about being on the stage.
