My 8yr old loves the famous five books but I'd like her to try some more up-to-date alternatives.

Has anybody got any suggestions?

The Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence? (Caveat - I haven't read them myself so can't say how age-appropriate they are, but my 8 y/o dd likes them, & they're often recommended on here.)

I was a famous five obsessive and I did also enjoy this series - more up to date although by today's standards even these are probably old hat now!

Come to that I suppose mysteries set in ancient Rome aren't that up to date Blush

Have you tried 'A Million Footsteps' - it's a bit like Famous Five in that it's adventure but takes place in this day and age.
