Hi

Ds (just turned 5) has started to really come on with his reading. He has just read a load of Dr Seuss green back books and is reading turquoise book level at school. I would like to buy him some books he could read himself as a present possibly the boys equivalent of the dreaded Rainbow Fairies ie something to give him the confidence to just go it alone. Any ideas???

Boys Rule series. I'd get them from the library, though. And after that there's Astrosaurs.

Ds is at a similar level and I'd be interested in ideas too. In some ways he's not very mature in his tastes so something fairly innocent would be good!

Likes reading Charlie and Lola and the like and can cope with that quite easily.

I believe Beast Quest is the 'boy equivalent' of Rainbow Magic? (Have a girl myself & they weren't around when she was little, but lots of people talk about them.)

Have you seen the Ahlberg Happy Families books, dd loved them when she was just getting into reading alone. They're very short though so maybe better from the library rather than to buy.

I also keep recommending these, but Walker books do a Racing Reads series that is a little longer/more advanced than the Happy Families but similar level to Rainbow Magic, & all sorts of good books in it.
