Can anybody recommend books my fluent ds(6)could read now and which to save for later?

He has devoured good old Enid Blyton,Roald Dahl,Dinosaur Cove,the Sally Gardner magic children books,Naughty Little Sister,Flat Stanley etc. He didn't take to Mr Gum or Jeremy Strong but has read several.

Basically he can read pretty much anything and has been this way for quite a while.He adores reading and is branching out but I don't want him to spoil the classics by reading books too young.

My aunt just gave him Why the Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo which I was going to put away but he snuck it out and hasn't taken his head out of it.

Dp has just found a huge box of some of my favourites which I read when a little bit older eg Tom's Midnight Garden,the Narnia books,The Borrowers etc. Then there is of course Harry Potter.

He's 7 at the end of Sep,so which would you save and can you recommend any other now books?

DS is 6 and not as fluent at reading, but he loves me reading the Sophie books by Dick King Smith to him - I love reading them too

The Swallows & Amazons books are lovely, & I would say ideal for a young fluent reader. Also Professor Branestawm & the Wombles books if you have those tucked away

This might sound a bit er.. obvious... but go to the library? And let him choose some. They let you take out several at a time - then you can take them back and get new ones!

I know what you mean about not wanting to 'spoil' classics - but he can always re-read (and will. I re-read all my books again and again and again.)

I loved The stream that Stood Still at that age - it was a series I think.

The other ones are The Tree that Sat Down and The Mountain of Magic . I loved them too.
