Comics for girls?

DD has recently discovered the comic books that came with her skechers and is obsessed! Trying to think of something similar to keep her entertained but can only think of male superheroes or the beano

Any ideas? She is 8.
TIA

Yup - with you there. Precious precious in comics for girls. They're all way to twee and young for an 8 year old.

MagicDad · 20/07/2010 13:49

I mean...precious LITTLE

I read the Beano when I was 8. Is it not much good any more?

Takver · 20/07/2010 15:30

Does she like the Captain Underpants books?

DD (7) reads the Beano sometimes - that one is not too specifically boyish, but she doesn't like Beano Max which has lots more about football etc. There really doesn't seem to be anything in the way of 'comics' for girls and not much for boys in this country - the French and the Japanese do loads more. If she's enjoying that style, maybe try her on some classics like Tintin and Asterix? DD and her friends have enjoyed some of those recently...

Whatever happened to Beryl the Peril?

CoupleofKooks · 23/07/2010 19:03

what about anorak? or okido? both quirky and suitable for boys or girls

Calamity Jane (big graphic novel we got from Library, on DD's floor at the moment).
Calvin and Hobbes.
Asterix, Star Wars, Tin Tin worth a browse in shop and library.

dd1 loved the beano. It's not just for boys you know.

Wow - some lovely ideas there thankyou! Have managed to find a Simpsons comic and she is trying the Artemis Fowl graphic novel...

Loads more to try now - thankyou all!

Have you explored manga. My dd loves these
and is currently waiting for this to be released.

pugsandseals · 03/08/2010 11:58

Thanks kittybrown! Will look them up. Had always thought the manga books were aimed at teenagers as I know a teenager who is very good at drawing the characters! The library have a whole section of them, but again in the teenage section so I have not explored them. Will take a 2nd look - thanks!
