Ideas for things I can do at home to celebrate my 40th

I'm not looking to have a party or anything, just something low key but slightly different from the usual weekend drudge of catching up with housework and loafing around. My DH will be at work until early evening and I just got a new dog a week ago who can't really be left alone for long.

I'm thinking of getting some nice food in, probably a small cake, but not really thought beyond that. If the weather's nice I'll probably take the dog for a long walk in the countryside. Normally I don't really celebrate birthdays, but I've been a bit stuck in a rut recently and could do with mixing things up a bit.

Do you like reading? You could get a new book and spend some time chilling and reading with tea/wine.
Treat yourself to some online shopping, I love looking through Vinted.

Pubs allow dogs. Book a table by the fire, have a nice meal, a glass of something, come home to fresh bed sheets and pyjamas, a good book.

Dh friendly cafe pit stop along your walk. Afternoon tea delivery to your house, bottle of champagne.

Have some flowers delivered.

Get a birthday cake delivered, M&S hampers do cakes and wine.

Have breakfast in bed, or out in the garden.

Invite a friend for lunch, keep it simple with smoked salmon sandwiches and a glass of fizz.

Have a lovely birthday whatever you decide to do!

Long soak in the bath with hair and face mask; new underwear to put on afterwards!

I would definitely get all of your favourite foods and drinks. I adore cooking but for my birthday I would get posh frozen food that you just bung in the oven or defrost (DH did this for Valentine's this year and it was lovely) and cake from a bakery. I would also get Champagne.

Watch a film?

Have someone come to give you a massage or manicure etc. ?

Do you want to Zoom with friends or family?

Have a nice breakfast, croissant and fruit etc then lovely walk, bath, new underwear and body cream sounds lovely , new loungewear if you can afford it, then I'd have a few crisps nibbles lovely cheeseboard charcuterie, nice bread and red wine, maybe a few other nibbles to make it tea.

I'd order food from Forman and Field - their gorgeous dressed lobster is such a treat - and open a really lovely bottle of Champagne or wine. (But then I am a gourmande and all my pleasures are food-and-wine-based. Your mileage may differ. 😂)

Get a male stripper like performance like they have for hen dos

Meet up with a friend for a pub lunch and bring the dog with you - maybe a nice walk before or after (if the dog is happy with that or if you can carry it if it's a puppy) and then home, a nice bath, fresh bedsheets and a box set and get DH to pick up something for tea.

Happy birthday in advance Flowers

if the weather is good enough make a lovely picnic for you and the dog , take a long walk and stop somewhere along the way to sit and enjoy it together

I would do all the above - lie in, reading, lunch with pals, dog walk, dinner delivery or whatever you want, and then in the evening when DP gets home we’d do something geeky like a pottery date night (buy a kit) or a painting date night (loads of tutorials on YouTube) 😁
