A very good article indeed. I liked the way Kathryn brought out that people without children not by choice don't always have black and white feelings on the subject, and that being 'childfree by choice' can be a decision made for complex underlying reasons, it's seldom the straightforward cliche of wanting lots of foreign holidays and lie-ins.

Absolutely!

I'm childfree by choice and when asked why I have a stock answer of 'because I'm lazy'.

But of course the real reasons are many and complex, including not growing up in a particularly happy home, not witnessing happy marriages much as a child, having a bad time with periods and period pain as a teenager, etc, all of which didn't make family life and motherhood seem very attractive!
