Some of you will remember my post where I've suddenly gone from dink to sink life. Still struggling but taking it day by day.

I'm thinking of taking myself away for a couple of nights somewhere and would appreciate any tips or advice. I'm not the best with my own company or chatting to strangers, but trying to throw myself into my new (albeit unwanted) life as much as possible.

Probably looking at somewhere in Europe, not too far as only for 2 nights. I'm desperate for some sun!

Lisbon is a lovely city, safe, walkable and a short flight from the UK. Currently 24c 🌞

I've always wanted to go there, on the list!

I've been to lots if places on my own! Most recently Paris, Newcastle, London and Liverpool. I like visiting art galleries and museums in particular, and those cities all have good selections.

Highly recommended. 😁

Paris is my favourite place in the world, I was toying with just jumping on the Eurostar and doing a night!

Second Lisbon sounding good, also Porto. 24c is sounding even better right now.

It depends what you're going for, I went to Krakow in Poland last September and loved it. Lots of walking and if you like churches, a castle etc. then there's loads to do. I felt perfectly safe the entire time too, bit cold at the moment though.

EdgarsTale · 20/02/2024 16:48

I’d do the Eurostar to Lille or Paris. It’s just so easy.

I was in Lille for my wedding anniversary last year so probably won't be going there 😬🤣

I had a few days in Malaga on my own and loved it.

I was single for many years through my 30s. I wouldn't have enjoyed going away just on my own so I went with a company called friendship travel. They go to loads of places and you have company when you want it (meal times, evening drinks etc) but can spend time on your own too if you like. I had some brilliant holidays to great places... almost makes me wish I was single again! Grin

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 20/02/2024 19:42

I just went to the USA on my own! Never done a long haul before. Booked it all myself. Had a whale of a time.
You'll be fine!

Fofftwenty21 · 20/02/2024 23:39

Lisbon is lovely or maybe Barcelona - I went there by myself and loved it 😍

TrishTrix · 21/02/2024 07:57

If you haven’t travelled much on your own I’d suggest going somewhere you know.

i find citybreaks easy.

not so sure a solo beach holiday would be a good thing (but I’m not really a beach holiday person)

I'd add much better adventures to the companies you can go with - having an "activity" means that the chatting to strangers bit isn't so awkward as there's a general focus. And you can do all sorts of stuff!
