How's your Christmas going?

My DP has just made eggs Florentine for a (late) brunch, washed down with rustic cider. Snooze time now then he's doing his traditional duck á la orange this evening. We've gone mad and opened the Quality Street early 😜

Tomorrow we'll feed the animals and poo pick early; breakfast of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and soda bread plus champagne. Pressies follow then prepping for guests - two old friends who otherwise would have been on their own plus the carer of one of them, I don't know her so hope she's OK.

Lunch at 1; brie and cranberry puffs followed by roast beef, loads of veg, yorkies and gravy then Christmas pud. Chucking out time is 4pm as it's feeding time for the animals. Collapse in front of the TV with homemade liqueurs and chocolates...

Great so far!

We're having a lazy day today then going out for dinner this evening, just the two of us.

Tomorrow we're having buffet food rather than a traditional Christmas dinner, so basically all the best bits. Sausage rolls, gammon, mince pies, cheese board, olives, Christmas cake, smoked salmon, etc, and lots of booze.

Cheers all! 🍸🍻🥂🎄🎅🎁

Slightly hungover here, having got a little too much into the Christmas spirits last night :) A bacon sandwich helped. I've just glazed and roasted the ham and it smells good. DH will be off to the pub soon for an hour or so - I'll make a start on wrapping presents then.

We're having supermarket party food for dinner tonight - stuffed jalapenos, duck spring rolls and some other bits I forget, plus cheese, paté, fresh French bread etc. if we fancy it.

Just the two of us tomorrow and I'm making my first ever beef Wellington. I have no idea what time dinner will be - it'll get served when it's ready. Also having smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and soda bread for breakfast.

Right, DH has just gone out - so off I go to wrapping hell! Merry Christmas all!

OK so far. Went out for a curry last night and just been for a two hour walk today to blow away the cobwebs. Tomorrow will be the challenge as I am cooking for eight people.

Bit of a non-event here. DH has been sleeping all day and is just about to get up for nightshift. We had the past two days off together which was nice. We spent one day watching films and going out for dinner, and one day visiting family. He's off nightshift on Wednesday morning, just in time for me to go back to work

Just had a delicious seafood and chorizo with rice, followed by a wedge of Saint Agur, chased down by a couple of glasses of white burgundy. Now watching Carols from Kings and am at peace with my fellow man/woman.

Really shit.

Dying of heat exhaustion at my elderly, non eating, non drinking parents. I’ve done all the housework, shopping, cooking, loading and emptying of the dishwasher, feeding and walking of dogs, prepping of Christmas meal (which only one will eat. The other is too ill), ironing of tablecloths etc etc since I arrived yesterday. Exhausted, bored, full of resentment (and guilt), feel judged if I have more than one glass of wine with dinner and cannot wait to go home on the 27th.

Bet you wish you’d never asked!

Helenahandkart · 24/12/2023 20:58

Shit. Cried all day on and off yesterday. Had a somber lunch with racist elderly relatives today, then dropped off my husband at his friend’s house so that he could meet their new baby and hang out with all the other children that I’m too unhappy to see while I came home and cooked and washed up. Currently sat alone on the sofa in my quiet joyless house with horrendous stomach cramp after eating dairy at lunchtime. Christmas can fuck right off this year and every year forever.
Infertility is a cunt.

And...it's cancelled. DP has tested very, very faintly for Covid so both guests (quite rightly) have declined - neither can take any health risks. We'll do a scaled down version tomorrow and a rerun next weekend.

@NahHumBrag - you are an adult. Have as much wine as you want.

@Helenahandkart - I'm sorry.

Sorry to hear that, I hope he’s better soon and you don’t catch it!

I’m having a very festive and chilled Christmas so far, looking forward to tomorrow for good food and bad tv 😂

Infertility here too. Sending hugs.

Christmas Eve was a bit shit (found fertility clinic letters while tidying the house and ended up having a cry).

Had a nice day hosting in-laws today though. Currently watching Gremlins.
