What are your big decisions today?

Lottapianos · 15/07/2023 09:38

Inspired by another thread where a childfree woman said that she loved the freedom she has, and how her biggest decisions today are how far to go on her hike and what sort of coffee machine to buy 😊

My decisions for today:

Which colours of Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeshadows to buy
What present to buy for my nephew
What to have for lunch
What to cook for dinner
What film to watch this evening

My DP is away so I only have to think about myself. I don't have to drive anybody to swimming lessons or birthday parties or football practice. Feeling very lucky and grateful today

I'm lounging on the sofa in my Missoni dressing grown (have zero plans today, bliss!) after making myself a flat white (with my wonderfully expensive coffee machine) and horror of horrors, I've realised that I may not have quite enough milk left to make a second flat white so I may actually have to go to a shop today. Unless I drink my second black. Oh the pressure!! 😂

I'm loving this thread. I feel like I've found my people. 😘

@HundredMilesAnHour

Thoughts and prayers 😁

Which coffee machine do you have? We need a new one. We seem to get through nespresso machines rather quickly in our house.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 16/07/2023 09:58

Took out the vacuum. It is still where I left it, the bag needs emptying and I can't be bothered

You're a woman after my own heart.

  1. Decide on job
  2. Start on job
  3. Look at job and think nah, that can wait, where are the biscuits?

Love this thread!
Im trying to decide whether to tidy the loft or to make pancakes and carry on watching telly.

Difficult decision 😄

Cooked breakfast or toast.
Walk or not (v windy here)
What to do this afternoon apart from kick our management company's backside over something that yet again they haven't done.

Thanks @TrundleWheel76, it's a struggle. Literally just took my last mouthful of flat white and realised I'd like another one so about to use the last of the milk for a mini one. (At this point I realise the only benefit to having a child would be one I could have sent to the shop to get milk for me 😂)

I have a Gaggia Titanium. It's wonderful! Even has its own filter in its water tank. Double boilers, everything. It's effectively commercial grade. But for some batshit reason Gaggia no longer make that model. I always buy Gaggia. They're outstanding coffee machines. I buy direct from Gaggia's only UK importer via their website. The owner is Raj and he used to be the MD of Gaggia UK. He provides personal service and looks after everything for you. I ordered my Titanium at the start of Covid (I'd just got a new job so it was my treat to myself) so there were issues as the factory in Italy had to close down but Raj really looked after me - and even offered me a more expensive model for the same price if I didn't want to wait for the Titanium.

I love this thread. It’s so refreshing to hear so many women talking about what is normal everyday life for us without any mention of parenting. It’s just so nice to not be a novelty act or an outlier. Thank you all 💐

Thank you!

That machine does look amazing. And of course another advantage of being childfree is more money available for the important things in life. Like coffee machines.

Off to look on the link...

Exactly! No kids means we can spank what some would consider a ridiculous amount of money on all sorts of things which parents may consider 'fripperies' but us happy childfree people consider essentials 😛

And the good news is that I just managed to make a full size flat white so now all I have to decide on today is what to have for brunch. Or perhaps I should get Deliveroo to bring a Sunday roast. Or some cake. Or both. It is Wimbledon finals day after all.

Careful, the carb police are everywhere.

How on earth are they going to have a final with this wind? (I'm a few miles from Wimbledon).

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/07/2023 11:11

I assume they'll close the roof if the wind is too bad. Bit rubbish for the general public though. I read in the Standard (online) that they closed the queue yesterday morning due to the yellow wind warning.

@IrritableVowel

Currently- should I get off sofa to make another coffee, even though it will disrupt a sleeping dog, and the rules say you must let them lie.

😆😆😆

underdramatic · 16/07/2023 16:30

Still ill so I’m on the sofa under my heated throw. I decided to watch something lighthearted & feel-good as my head is a fuzzy and I’m feeling dozy ....somehow I’m on episode 4 of Hannibal

TheFireflies · 16/07/2023 16:32

I’ve just made Nadiya’s chocolate caramel flan after seeing her make it on TV. The best thing about being child free is we don’t have to share it.

Just decided on dinner (Chinese) before going for a long shower to set myself up for the week.

I do shower on all other days too BTW.
I may be child free, but I do comform to some social standards.

Tonight I will do the full works, try to save the hair on my head, while trying to dissolve the hair on my chin shins

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/07/2023 18:23

Deciding to go to Aldi on a treat finding mission (ice cream). Posting a job application and what to feed the garden birds- meal worms or suet.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 17/07/2023 18:37

Strawberries for dessert or strawberries AND dark chocolate choc ice? (rhetorical question, really 😃)

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 17/07/2023 19:52

Which incense scent do I want while doing this evening’s yoga: nag champa or oud?

Other decisions of the day: do I want to go to the pub (delayed until later in the week, to be decided on the day - ah, the joys of flexibility!) and do I want noodles for dinner or something else?

I dare say there are those that would say these are trivial matters (and they’d be right) and that I wouldn’t have time to even think about such things if I’d followed my biological, womanly destiny and sprogged up like I was supposed to. But I didn’t want my life to be an exhausting battleground of survival so I’ll just be over here, being trivial.

Oh you are here! Hello! Welcome along.

Thank you!

Still looking at coffee machines.

Although, I really ought to be deciding between fostering and adoption; apparently they're both quite easy, especially with no experience, because I have time and spare rooms.

hides here forever

  • What to cook for dinner.
  • Whether to walk my dog at lunchtime or after work.
  • Which set of white cotton bedding to buy for our new Super King bed.
  • What to include in a BD and Marketing strategy that will dictate the direction of travel for my employer for the next 12 months.

Oh my lord 🤦🏻‍♂️ I read all of those comments on that thread. It was like people just couldn't stop saying it! Yeah, foster a child, as a bit of a trial run for parenting, to see how you get on with it, even though you have said you don't want to have children. Great idea 🙄 its like people couldn't get their heads around the idea that a couple might be FINE without kids!
