I'm off work with a stomach bug which is now on day 5. I'm very bored.

I'm currently binge watching Witcher on Netflix.

Is anyone else around today?

Sorry you are poorly, OP. Do you live alone? What hobbies do you usually have when you are well?

TrundleWheel76 · 04/07/2023 10:21

I live with my OH but he's gone to work. My dog is keeping me company.

Some of my hobbies are not really possible at the moment sadly, such as walking, cooking and baking, (and eating). I've been reading, listening to audiobooks, even cleaning and laundry. It's just getting a bit tedious being stuck at home!

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 04/07/2023 10:31

I am home alone as I am self isolating ahead of visiting a sick friend (I have to ensure that I have zero viruses to pass on. Raining today so I may be forced to do cleaning which I hate!

I have been getting back into reading - have you seen the ‘rather dated book club’ on here, might give you some motivation to read something different?

If you like walking, perhaps get the maps out and dream. I did the coast to coast with DDog and late DH (quite a few years ago now). Is it mostly dog walking you do or anything more strenuous?

Catsmere · 04/07/2023 11:02

Sorry you're crook, OP, that's a long time for a stomach bug.

I'm home after a day at my knitting group, sitting in front of a Time Team DVD and poking around on MN, and glad I don't have any appointments tomorrow.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/07/2023 12:20

TIME TEAM HAVE DVDS??

TIME TEAM HAVE DVDS??

OMG have just looked at Amazon and they do. I watched a programme about the history of TT and the funniest things was seeing how Tony Robinson changed from series to series while Mick Aston and Phil Harding stayed exactly the same.

Catsmere · 04/07/2023 12:31

Time Team have DVDs of some of their series and specials, but most of mine are ones I recorded while watching the show when it was on the ABC here, all those years ago. I loved Mick and Tony and Phil and crew! Never got into the new ones they're showing online though, couldn't stand the presenter and without those three it's just not right, even though Carenza and Helen and John and Stewart are there.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/07/2023 12:37

Nope, didn't like the later format with some gormless type wandering around and asking questions.

Archaeology was one of the subjects I was considering for university (I went for history and English instead). I did go to to evening classes for a while run by an archaeologist, and he said about TT, watch when Robinson's talking to someone. They talk to him, only TR talks to camera.

Catsmere · 04/07/2023 13:00

That new bloke always sounds to me like he's trying to talk like Attenborough with the hushed voice.

Speaking of TR, did you see his Worst Jobs in History series? I didn't watch all of it, but the medieval one where he's fulling wool (ie stamping on it in a vat of stale urine) and nearly throwing up while he's doing it cracks me up every single time. (I have never claimed to be a nice person ...)

Nope, only watched him in TT. He was always on my list of 'who is the most irritating person on TV?'

As this is idle chat, I think it’s not derailing the thread if I share that an ex boyfriend of mine turned up on Time Team once as the ‘expert’. To be fair, he had been an archeology student when I was with him. He hadn’t aged very well mind you.

Catsmere · 04/07/2023 13:16

@Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight wouldn't be Jonathon Foyle then, he's aged rather well imo! 😄

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain funny, TR irritated me a bit when we started watching, but not now. Except for when he says "Begs the question" and "I can't help but think" AAAAAAAAGH!

Oooh exciting!!

That's definitely worthy of an idle chat thread 😁

I've had a lingering stomach bug for over two weeks now. Just when I think it's cleared up, I get the dreaded sulphuric feeling and it comes back with a vengeance. Hope yours clears up soon OP.

C1239 · 04/07/2023 18:54

How you feeling OP? I’ve also been at home this week with a lurgy, feeling a bit sorry for myself now!

TrundleWheel76 · 04/07/2023 18:59

Not too bad thanks, I've had a lazy day and my symptoms are (hopefully) starting to improve.

I'm just not used to sitting around all day! I'm usually either at work, or if not I'm busy doing other things.

With this bug though I absolutely had to just stay at home!!

OP posts:
Catsmere · 04/07/2023 22:34

Welp! I didn't know stomach bugs last so long - hope yours clears up soon too, @musixa.

TrundleWheel76 · 05/07/2023 09:36

Yeah, according to NHS up to 10 days!

OP posts:
Catsmere · 05/07/2023 23:00

Blimey, that's nasty.

Catsmere · 07/07/2023 05:11

I'm doing my knitting in the lounge atm. The warm spot in the bedroom is serving greater needs.

How are you feeling today, @TrundleWheel76 and @musixa ?

Have a couple of solar-powered cats to help you feel better.

Hi @Catsmere

A lot better thank you, although unfortunately that means I'll be back at work on Monday. 😁

Your cats are gorgeous!

Here's my grumpy dog...

Glad to hear it, despite the downside of getting better!

Thank you, they know it, too. Especially Miss Tortie in the foreground.

Is your dog grumpy because you're going to desert him/her in a couple of days? (Never mind about earning money for dog food, that doesn't count ...)
