I didn't see the original discussion around creating this board.

i cba trawling through the other thread, sorry!

was there no distinction made between childless and childfree? I've been a totally true Childfree person since forever, so to me the whole "by choice" thing makes no sense. Is this section intended for the joyous childfree or is the word being twisted even now in 2023?

It is supposed to be for childfree-by-choice, childless-not-by-choice, and anyone else without children. Just MNHQ decided to call it "Childfree Mumsnetters" even though there were other more inclusive names suggested. Maybe for algorithm reasons.

Ah, okay, thanks.

Wrong name in that case...I was wary of posting as I did wonder.

The name is a sub-optimal compromise - but of course there are lots of practical and emotional things that women who are CFBC and involuntarily childless do have in common and can usefully discuss together. Wills would be an obvious example, but flicking down the list of threads in this section there's loads of them.

I'd suggest that the solution is to do something that's being done in practice already - that if you specifically want to discuss a topic with other women CF by choice (or the opposite) you flag it up in the title.

It started reusing "Mumsnot" which raised a few objections and considerable hilarity for being readable as Mum Snot rather than Mums Not.

Childless was considered to be insensitive as it was implying posters were ‘less’ than ‘other’ posters, or lacking in some way. And Mumsnot was just awful, for similar reasons.
