This board was created by a great discussion on the site stuff board.

the scope of the board was a welcoming space for mumsnetters without children (both childfree and childless) to share life experiences.

Whilst it’s great we have a board I’m baffled as to why childless posters have not been included in the board they also lobbied for. Not only is the board clearly labelled as for the childfree, but the name of the board is a pretty cruel pun for any posters struggling to adjust to life without children.

can we please have the “mumsnetters without children” board we asked for?

With the explanatory strapline of "for childless and childfree mnetters".

How do topics have taglines? Do you mean when you go into the thread, at the top? It doesn't happen with other topics.

And MumsNot is incredibly crass. Sure, it's linguistically clever but utterly thoughtless. Glad MN changed it even if it's still not what the posters concerned requested.

The best name would be Mumsnetters without children.

Factual, without the loaded connotations of being childfree or childless. Inclusive to all.

Unfortunately there is no way to describe somebody who isn't a parent without using the word parent or child, no word exists for it in the English language.

Agree. There are boards if people want to discuss infertility etc. This board should be about life being awesome and not grieving for what people longed for. Please not “life without children” though. That makes it sound miserable and as if something is missing from life

That's not the sole purpose of this board. It is also for people struggling with a future without children, for people generally happy with their decision but a bit sad or unsure about certain elements and those unsure whether they have done the right thing.

It can also be about celebrating the good stuff.

It is for all women who don't have children.

I don’t understand- yesterday there was a new topic called MumsNot and today there’s this one - is this another one or has @mumsnet changed it again? Why the change from MumsNot @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet? It seemed catchy and people seemed to like it (once you cleared up the snot association problem!)

I think it was because the last thing childfree not by choice women wanted to be reminded of was that they were NOT a MUM.

If there is a Board for women who don't have children, then could that give the posters who constantly post about 'why are women who don't have children posting on here' even more ammunition. This could then become 'why are women who don't have children posting on this board when they have a board all of their own?'

I disagree. Now we have this board we won’t need to start threads in AIBU or Chat about issues affecting us.

This could then become 'why are black /Scottish/Irish women posting they have a board all of their own?'

Why are you creating scenarios that don't exist with similar boards within the forum already?

I have never seen a post about black /Scottish/Irish women not posting on MN but I have seen many posts about women who do not have children should not be posting on here.

I don't know what the official line is for the subheadings. But less than a day ago it was titled Mumsnot, then Mums Not, and there was a line below the title that said "for childfree mumsnetters".

EarringsandLipstick · 08/06/2023 13:44

Oh ok @lemonchiffonpie it didn't show up on the app, maybe that's wfh I didn't realise it could be possible.

It was because a poster complained.

Yes, nothing wrong with complaining
