I've been a live-in nanny for 24 years, I have never taken a present for the family!

I usually take something small for the children, as I generally look after babies I take books as a lot of new parents don't think about reading to a little baby! Usually a couple of 'That's not my' books.

Box of choccies or a lovely small plant would be a lovely gesture! I don't think the parents will/should expect anything from you, but it's a lovely, thoughtful gesture. I would do the same in your position.

Parents don't think of reading to a little baby I guess as primary teacher, I assumed people would... and all of the literature that says how important it is to read to your child from birth/in the womb even...etc.
