First ofsted inspection

Mumsaysno · 22/06/2010 13:38

I have just received a call from Ofsted to say that they will be inspecting me sometime during the week the 12th July. Am now panicking as I don't feel ready. She mentioned wanting to see attendance register (I don't have an attendance register as I mind one child before and after school four days a week and charge a daily rate not hourly). Do I need to backdate an attendance register with only one name on it? Also because I only have one school aged child before and after school how many observations etc would I need. HELP FEEL COMPLETELY LOST IN PAPERWORK.

you need to record the exact times the child is with you regardless of how you charge

It's for your own protection really - if your register shows child with you from x o'clock to y o'clock and they sustain an injury elsewhere you might get the blame

you can knock up your own register -child's name, dob, time in time out, parents signature against each entry for extra brownie points

how old is the school age child? no need to do obs if they are out of reception age

Keynes, thank you for replying. I will make up an attendance register. The child is 5 so still in reception unfortunately. Was hoping ofsted wouldn't call until after August when she will no longer be EYFS.

What else will I need apart from attendance register?

on display:

ofsted cert plus their latest poster for parents
first aid cert
emergency plan and floor plan
public liability cert

to hand, in a file things like:
Local safeguarding procedure and What to do if you're worried a child is being abused - Summary (down load from here)
Risk Assessments, house, garden, the school run, trips out etc
Permissions from parents for EVERYTHING - sun cream/travel in car/trips and outings yadda yadda
Policies and procedures
Copy of car insurance cert showing business use
Emergency evacuation/fire drill log and do one if you've not done one already
Smoke alarm test log

SEF - have you started it yet? you have a bit of time

Ask your Early Years team officer to come and see you to double check

keynes · 22/06/2010 14:12

wrt obs - one a month is fine, more if you can

look back though photos to jog your memory

write down what happened, and think of the next steps

eg managed to balance tennis ball on racquet, next steps egg and spoon, that kind of thing

pop all in a file for the child

You will need to show that you are providing continuity of care by working alongside your mindees school. If you havn't already send a letter in (keep a copy on file) requesting their planning, you can then use this as a bisis for your planning and note obs from what mindee has done with you.

Mumsaysno - Out of interest, how long have you been registered for, I take it this is your '6 month' check, is July your 6th month? I'm 4 months in to my registration and I'm dreading getting 'the call'!

Mumsaysno · 23/06/2010 14:09

No Lollipop I registered in February so its 5 months, 6 months would have been in August, and I don't do holidays just term time
Am still panicking and trying to get everything done and double checking everything.

Well she came on Monday, stayed for three hours, looked at all my paperwork, looked around the house and garden, asked lots of questions and spoke to the kids and I was graded GOOD, which I am really pleased about, was so nervous would have been happy with a satisfactory. Can relax now for the next three years.
