How much do you pay your babysitter?

Never had a babysitter before LOL so clueless!
Have 2 dcs aged 3 and 20 months. We have an evening out and wondered how much to pay. We live in a city in Scotland and our sitter is 18.

Do you pay a set rate per hour, per evening and I would like to get her to sit occassionaly during daytime to let me get out.

What do you all do?

TIA

I'm an old fart too then . Great thanks for all your info everyone - it's been really helpful.

BTW the reason I am happy for her to sit is that I know her family, she lives across from me and I have had her over for a chat meet the kids explain to them etc etc.

It will be either her or her big sis (who has masses of childcare exp) depending on who is available at any given time.

I pay £9 per hour, 3 fixed hours every Friday night. We're ever so exciting. Even though it works out expensive, she always insists on doing our ironing when ds asleep, so I feel she is good value and is great with ds.

We paid £20 in the end and she was very happy. Derek Acorah was hmm interesting........

Thanks all
