Hi - we are currently starting the process to get a nanny through an agency (Tinies) - can someone explain about holidays. The form says they are entitiled to 20 days holidays - do they take these at the same time as we take ours? ... if not what do you do regarding cover for the times they are on holiday .. many thanks for any help

They're entitled to 5.6 weeks which if they're working 5 days a week equates to 28 days or 20 days plus 8 bank holidays.

They can take them at the same time as yours but fairer to pick half each.

I think people normally do half-half, as in take half of holiday when it suits you and the other half when it suits the nanny. But it can all be done by agreement. Speak to your nanny and say what would work for you and see what (s)he says.

I have to take my holidays at particular time so when we interviewed we asked potential nannies if that would be a problem. But because we know this is restrictive we offered much more paid holiday per year than standard so to make it worth while for the nanny.

We agree the holidays when we write the annual contract. I ask the nanny to take hols in the school hols because, obviously, I want to go go on hols sometimes too so prefer not to spend them doing the school run.

Of coure if nanny needs hols in term time for a specific event I would give it to her. For example, if she had a wedding to attend, then I would just have to do the school run on my hols.

generally the holiday is choice shared, ie if 4weeks then 2 weeks is chocsen by nanny+parent

sometimes mb/db covers me, or gp's or my friends cover and obv mb pay them
