One of my mindees has suspected SW H1N1. Has been given tammiflu.

Has anyone else had a case of SW, and can you let me know what if anything you needed to do please.

TIA

The guidance I have is that young mindees should be absent from school & childcare for 7 days AND until symptoms have cleared.

Keep on with the handwashing - make sure children get a lot of help with this as even the oldest mindees tend to just show their hands to the taps if you're not watching over them! Ensure toys are being washed regularly and clean door handles and other hot spots with anti-bac spray. Keep plenty of tissues and make sure children are disposing of them properly and washing their hands frequently.

Inform other parents that there has been a suspected case and ensure everyone has a copy of your sickness/exclusion policy. You can check that parents contact numbers are up to date. Look out for any signs/symptoms of illness in the children and notify parents promptly if anyone becomes ill.

Just the same procedures and practice as any other illness really

Thanks ayla we put extra precautions in place when the virus went to phase 5, I think it was last June, Thought we'd managed to avoid it put there you go, we have hand gels at the enterance and exit for everyone to use as well. I notified parents last night, but wasn't sure if we are meant to close or not, as some nurseries that have had an outbreak have whereas others have just put up a notice to inform parents that a case has been in the nursery. I'm a bit stumped as obv being Friday night I can't get in touch with the LA and I wanted to let people know asap so they can sort care out for Monday.

Not a lot I can do really apart from hygeine stuff to prevent the spread that way, I think I'll just carry on as normal unless another case pops up over the weekend then I'll think about re-assessing situation.

Thanks again
