Any e-mail you may get saying it's from HMRC and saying you are entitled to a refund I think.

HMRC: Phishing Emails
"HMRC do not send notifications of a tax rebate over email, or request that you update your security certification.

If you receive an email that does not address you by your first name and surname and then asks you to click on a link and/or disclose your details, you may well be revealing your details to a fraudulent website."

More info from HRMC along with examples and a list of e-mail addresses from which they do not send out e-mails.

ultimately it comes down to common sense. Reputable organizations don't send emails asking for personal details so if you get one, be that from your bank or somewhere else then it's not genuine.

okay back to the beginning MaNa

you have just filed online?

via an email purporting to be from hmrc?

MaNa1 · 01/02/2010 17:45

Ok. So I have filed online with HMRC and confirmed with them today that it is not bogus-the reason for giving my bank details was for the possible refund. So you were right nannynick.

I do beleive that the HMRC are a reputable company & thank goodness that I still have common sense!
