Do we have a minimum temperature that if it dips below that we should close our settings?

Just asking as we are due temps down in the region of -20c

I suppose we should each have a policy but it's one I haven't written yet

I guess it is part of Risk Assessment; but I have decided that if the children get here I will look after them. I would only close if I thought the roads should be avoided - the police would be the people to advise us (they did warn me when we were going to be flooded)

You can stay open all the time you can maintain the temperature in your house to at least 16C and having running water and use of a telephone- remember some house phones rely on an electric supply to work.

From recent research into Ofsted approved heating systems they stipulate that the room must be kept at an ambient temperature, with consideration as to age / mobility of the children. So as long as you have adequate heating / electricity / running water / sausage rolls and fruit shoots, then I reckon you can open despite bollock freezin temp outside.

Outside may be freezing, but indoors we're OK.

but you must keep back door open at all times so the children have access to outdoors!!!!

looneytune · 07/01/2010 10:51

No way. I NEVER keep my back door open for them to help themselves. They can go out when they want but I risk assessed and it's not safe to have myu lot helping themselves!! My ds1 was rushed to hospital when he was little because he slipped going out of the back door and was knocked out!
