3yo making protest

a friend of mine started childminding my girls (5 & 3) about 2 months ago. she has 2 girls similar ages who are friends of my girls.

everything went very well at first but 2 wks ago my 3yo said she didn't want me to go to work and had a tantrum when I left her with the childminder. It went on for ages but once she recovered she was fine for the rest of the day. since then everyday she's happy until we meet the childminder and then she goes quiet, hangs her head and refuses to speak. apparently she keeps this up for about an hr or 2 - ignoring everyone and not joining in at the music group they go to. then she suddenly snaps out of it and is fine for the rest of the day.

She says it's just a hiding game. I've told her not to do it anymore because it's making everyone sad. I've tried reasoning, being cross, no treats and she's still doing it. My friend has tried ignoring it, being nice and being a bit cross. what can we do? She?s missing out on the morning fun and making life difficult for my friend and her daughter.

just ignore it, sounds like a strong willed child who is gaining the attention she wants by doing this. She probably is a bit jealous that normally her mum is with her when you socialise together and now there is only one mum to go round and its not hers. Not much you can do except wave her off with a cheery smile and asking her to tell you what she has been doing all day she'll soon give up and join in.
