Me and my partner are looking at au pair coupling from next March onwards, I was wondering if any of you guys know of some websites where I can find couple work?

We are a couple and are looking for a couple position, so please don't contact us if you are after a single person!

I (Nikki) am currently a live-in nanny who will be fully qualified (NVQ level 3) before I reach you. I'm a nice person and I love working with kids and have done so in a variety of settings (school, home, nursery & kids adventure camp) over the past few years.

Andy is a lovely guy, very chilled out and enjoys having something to do, whether that be building something, playing games with kids, climbing/canoeing or anything outdoorsy really! He is currently working in France for a kids adventure camp as an instructor, though last year he was a favoured 'group leader' for 13-16 year olds with the same company (contact for more details, I'll be happy to chat about it).

We're both trained in first aid and have been CRB checked within 2009.

We'd like to truly share the usual responsibilities of au pair couples as we're both keen on childcare/gardening/DIY/etc equally and don't mind straying from usual gender roles to give one another a hand.

Both of us have worked away from home before as watersports instructors (we're BCU/UKCC Level One Paddlesports Coaches and Nikki is looking to tae the next level asap) for the aforementioned kids camp. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we would not like to abandon our outdoor pursuits completely. So we're perfect companions for parents with climbing, paddling and sailing on their minds! (Though we're happy doing this in our own time if this is not your cup of tea).

We love climbing and paddling mainly, though Andy is also a sailor (something I'd like to get into as well) and we're both very keen on watersports in general.
And we will happily encourage (and coach if you'd like) your kids and join them on outdoor adventures whereever possible! We enjoy that sort of thing.

We are both quite healthy people, Andy's very much into keeping trim and active whilst I'm the one who focusses more on a healthy state of being and eating right. I'm a vegetarian, but Andy isn't, he'll eat anything and everything pretty much! However I am perfectly happy to cook meat and do so on a regular basis for my two current charges.

I'm hoping to learn a variety of languages, though ones I've been meaning to focus on first are Farsi, BSL and French; and I'm sure that Andy would love to have a chance to practice his (somewhat lacking :p) German skills!

If we end up staying in the UK, we'd both like colleges nearby where we can study in our free time (though this isn't essential).

  • Is that better?

Nikki is looking to take the next level.

Kids' camp (pedant....pedant...)

Must dash but those 2 struck me on skim-read!

PixiNanny · 19/06/2009 20:56

Haha, that was the last thing I chucked in as J was calling me about pizzas thanks for the heads up on it!

& my grammar = fail sometimes, I apologise lol

(and have I even spelt grammar right?)

Oh, & a cheeky shameless self promo:

If anyone fancies an AP Couple from Jan '10, send an email my way! It's on page 2

Grammar is the correct spelling

PixiNanny · 20/06/2009 19:17

Haha, thanks! It's one of those words that I always forget

I'm starting to rue the day I decided to do this, the sites have barely any jobs for couples anyways, let alone those starting in January I really want a job with shared responsibilities rather than each of us having our own separate tasks!

Regurgitating (again)

Does anybody know of agencies that deal with couples? I've contacted two or three and they haven't gotten back to me yet and PGL are going to demand that we sign contracts by September/October at the latest, so I'm stuck for time really and would like to get a job sorted by October preferably!

So yes, agencies? Know of any? I google au pair couple and get loads of sites like Trovit and the usual AP sites, but not much else!

When's your next driving test booked for ?

PixiNanny · 19/07/2009 23:46

two/three weeks time I think, August 7th. A pain though as I got the swine so haven't had a driving lesson for ages

Anyone had any luck with simplyangelic agency? Or any other agencies?

Hello Pixinanny. I hadnt repleid to this yet as I wasnt sure how to word this and the last thing that I want to do is cause any offence at all.

I think the package you are offering is great and I would be thrilled to have the space and be able to afford you for my DS. HOWEVER ...
I would probably not even pause on your profile.

Its the photos you see, they look like a young couple having a party- which they probably are.

It would be SO much better if you could have a photo of you both in your outdoors gear, like climbing or water sports, not hanging all over each other but just holding hands or pulling a boat out the water or well I dont know, but something that says 'we are professional, sporty people' not 'we really love each other'

They ARE lovely photos of you both, and would be great to send on to people when you are exchangng emails, but I just dont think they give the right first impression
I really hope I havent offended you!!

PixiNanny · 23/07/2009 16:19

You haven't offended me lol. We have probably two or three photos of us together, I don't like any of them personally, but it's all we have and that main one is the best we have out of our morbidly small collection. I have photos of each of us (but not together) though they aren't much better, and in our PGL uniform, but we aren't allowed to post those as it's against PGLs policy. Which is a bitch, because a few of those would be better than what we have.

Though I don't know where you got the party idea from, we were in his room playing the playstation Neither of us are hugely social lol I had to be dragged out of the house for my own birthday party, and the only reason I done it was because I was dressed up as supergirl haha

Either way, unfortunately we're not doing it now, as he's decided that au pairing isn't for him at all and isn't swaying
