I got stressed out about planning last year and bought loads of cd-roms on ebay (very good resources btw!). However, you don't need to 'plan' as such under EYFS, I have a monthly 'guideline' covering themes, festivals, birthdays etc, but gave up planning weekly activities ages ago because EYFS is supposed to be child-led and I now just have 'loose' themes that I build into my weekly 'aims'. Today was planting seeds but children didn't like the colour of the compost and planted the seeds in 'playdoh' instead - now have mini plantpots with playdoh surfaces, (following cm intervention!! )

You could plan for this that and the other until you are blue in the face but at the end of the day, plans with children for a cm are very much subject to change (and the weather), much more than the structured environment of a nursery setting. BTW - my son has been in nursery for 14 mths (he's 4yrs 4mths) and I haven't seen a 'plan' or evaluation yet! I currently share more information with my parents than the nursery does . Please contact me if you want more info about what I fill in - can send you copies of forms etc.

I have a list of themes covering multi-faith events, birthdays etc and they are really helpful if you are at a loose end and the children have not asked for something. For example: For St Patricks Day, I bought loads of Irish food for snacks and lunch. I had pictures of leprechauns (sp?), etc scattered about, they could make a shamrock with the modelling equipment, go hunting for gold in the garden, etc. Unfortunately ... I was ill (thanks to one of the children) for 2 days and my family ate all the food and the pictures etc just went into general circulation ... but you get the idea.

I could not make detailed plans, because the children would only want to do something different.
