i think i have at last got the observation business right. but how much planning do i really need to show? can i not just do an overall weekly plan showing themes and what/how we will deal with tehm. I do next steps with my obs.

Show your full planning on paper for a few examples, maybe 6, one for each area? Then do the bare minimum for the rest, just enough so that you can tell what you should be offering the child next.

I have seen a nursery's planning. They do 4 written obs of a few lines each, include 4 pictures the child has drawn, and 2 long observations (A4 page). They then have one obs for each week of the term. But they definately are not going to get 'outstanding'.

Do as much as you're comfortable with.
