I am thinking of looking for a childminder but have no idea how much they cost - can anyone give an approx idea? It will be for 2 days/week. DS1 is 4 so will need before school, drop-off and pick-up and after-school, and DS2 is 14 months. I'm in surrey. any info would be a big help. thanks!

Have a look here & put your postcode in

I would charge about £4.00 per hour / per child. For the school age child, it would only be for the hours before and after school.

However it really depends on what the CM's in your area are charging. Have a rind around and see what the going rate is.

Where in Surrey? It's a very large county - some parts are actually London.

In my area, West Surrey/Berkshire Border, £5 per hour per child is typical.

thanks - we're near Kingston, so I guess it would be london prices

Mine is £40 a day (in London)

I am in Sunbury and charge £5.50 per hour for pre-schoolers and £5 per hour thereafter.

£5-£6 an hour, SW London. Depends if full day or a few hours only.

Have you considered a nanny for your children as may be more cost effective with 2 children especially in the school holidays.

foe live out you would be looking at £7-£8 net an hr in your area.

thanks everyone.

Lindseyfox - that's interesting, i always assumed that a nanny would just be way too expensive.

You need to do your homework in your own area - many childminders have sibling discounts.
