Refunds for after school mindees

Hi all, Just wondered if you refund your after schoolies due to school closures. A parent has asked to be refunded due to the snow and school closure but I have said that I was still available to work throughout the contracted times. Just wanted to know if I was unreasonable and what other childminders have done
Thanks

No refunds from me. I was still working.

Unless you made a decision to close, the parent is not entitled to a refund. It is not the childminder's fault if weather hindered the parent's journey any more than if their car broke down or child was sick etc. The childminder is not involved in the schools decision to close, and a school's closure does not necessarily mean the parent can't get to the childminder's home. If the childminder was ready for work if the parent had knocked on the door as usual, then the fee is due as usual IMO.

My contracts include a note under absence section that full fees are due if school closed (snow day, boiler breakdown, staff strike etc).

I do a before school run and did not have the children for the usual hour, so I was wondering what other people are doing. I am going to include a clause about school closure in my contracts from now on.

Thanks for your replies I will have to include school closures on contract from now on aswell.
