Arggh-How do I become a childminder

Am finding this really frustrating. Have phoned Children's Information Service, they have 2 briefing sessions, both in March, both miles and miles away and both at 6.45 pm.

Does that sound unreasonable or is it just me? I can't guarantee that DH will be home by then and its bedtime for the kids.

When I expressed my dismay they just said phone back in April and there may be courses nearer to my home.

I want to be a chlldminder and I have people who would like me to have their children.

Is there another way to get registered? Where do I go from here?

Just a thought, but would those people be OK to look after your kids briefly while you go to the session/s? I'd personally see it as a good investment!

It wouldn't work as I would have to leave home before 6pm to get there on time and they wouldn't be home from work by then.

Oh.... BUMP

Ineedsomesleep · 02/02/2009 10:50

Thanks for the bump

I really don't think there is an answer to this. It just seems to ridiculous that the government spends millions on advertising, trying to recruit people into childcare and then it is so bureaucratic.

When I became registered 3 yrs ago, I found it a very long drawn out process. It took a couple of months to get onto a briefing session, then I had to try and get onto the ICP course. The one in my town got cancelled so I had to travel 20 miles or wait another 3 months to get onto the next course in my area. I then had to wait another few months for my First Aid course and then yet another wait for Ofsted and CRB checks. In all, it took me nearly a year to become registered.

You need to be prepared for courses to be cancelled at short notice, to travel to try and get onto other courses and have patience as everything takes time.
