It depends on the child and what they are doing!!
Some days I can have 6 for one child, and then nothing for a few days after that. I find that the older they are it gets harder as they do not have as many "wow" moments from their development.

I had my inspection recently and she said that it is more about you knowing the child and recording what they achieve and making it personal rather than "today we did painting".

I have several, but they are only informal notes in the children's diaries... ie Child X stacked 12 wooden blocks today, or Child Y said "Sorry" when she accidentally knocked baby Z over. Not much more than that.

I've done three "proper" observations since September where I've wrote them up as an observation, assessment and then planning next steps. Maybe a page for each one.

Other than that just quick observations in their weekly diary.

Hopefully that will be enough (once a month)but I won't really know until another 18 months when my inspection is due. If not the worst they can do is give me a slap on the wrists!
