Babysitter's DBS check from 2024

I have only ever used one friend and my mum to babysit while DP and I went out. I just need an adult in the house while DP and I go out and do something that isn't watching TV with a bottle of wine. Children will be asleep, we'll go for a drive or dinner or the pub, I don't know.

I have found a babysitter on bubble who seems great - used to be a nanny, lots of great reviews etc. and she's sent me her dbs certificate, which is from late 2024. I don't know if this is too out of date, or standard? Would you expect it to be renewed annually?

I don't know what I'm doing to be honest and would welcome some views from people more experienced than me.

DBS is valid for 3 years.

If she had any nouse she'd be on the update service, so you should ask about this. Other than that her DBS is still valid.

May be on DBS Update service, which can be checked online. It is an addon to the certificate, not a replacement, which means that it is continuously updated, no certificate expiry.

Scroll down to “Employers and other organisations” on https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service and click on “check a DBS certificate status online”.
It returns a status, such as “This certificate remains current as no further information has been identified since its issue”.

You need to have the babysitters permission to carry out the check, and need info from the printed certificate.

My certificate is years old as I’m on the update service. You only get one certificate which is silly

The certificate is only up to date on the day it is issued. It tells you of any convictions up to that date.

There's no expiry date.
