I can´t work out why gumtree won´t let me post a message about compiling a list on the jobs pages. All the "proper" agencies post there.

Any ideas?

It would be competing against them, would be my guess.
It may fit in Services, saying something like: new nanny bi-weekly magazine.

Getting the word out to scottish nannies is going to be your problem I think. It will be hard to advertise it on existing sites - gumtree, nannyjob, for example - as it would be in competition with them.

Perhaps you could in some way market it to agencies in scotland, asking them to help distribute it to nannies on their books. Would give then somewhere to advertise - but again you may get stuck with the competitor issue - as your publication would be carrying private ads from parents, who aren't then using an agency (though agencies could then sell them the service of having a nanny registered).

I´m still a wee bit confused!

So why can agencies use the likes of gumtree etc? If that was how I was going to publish the online details, would that work?

I´m not particularly bothered where or how they are published online. So long as they are.

If I were to.. Give details of available nannies, available jobs, not do any matching, but then (like an agency) have a web link, which would take you to my site, would that work?

I really don´t get it!

Sorry I have no idea. You will probably just have to experiment with what Gumtree will permit.
On some sites, like NannyJob, agencies have special Agency login and thus can post multiple ads easier. To get that though, you would need to be able to show that you were an agency, which you aren't (at the moment, CC may decide otherwise of course).

Could you not publish ads on your own website and have an RSS feed which enables other ad listing services to pickup your ads.

How popular is Gumtree in Scotland? Are there not other job listing services?

OrganiseMe · 04/06/2008 15:18

Nick, what is an rss feed and how would I go about setting this up?

Gumtree is quite popular, not sure if the jobcentre would count as another job listing service, other than that and local press I can't think of anything else.
