My brother and sister in law had alternate Saturdays to themselves. That meant the other partner was fully in charge - from getting kids dressed, meals, and what to do with them - for the entire day until bedtime. It does mean that you are limited on doing things together as a family, but it sounds like you don't do that anyway, so this might work for you.
